Table of Contents

Keep your new blinds and shades in excellent condition by following a few basic cleaning instructions.

This will not only help maintain their longevity but can also be beneficial to your overall health. Everything from dust and pet hair to sun damage can accumulate on your shades and blinds over time. It’s recommended to clean them anywhere from twice a year thoroughly to every other week while cleaning the rest of your home. In this post we’ll be breaking down the different methods to cleaning your blinds and shades based on their individual material and structure.

Do you have a vacuum with a brush attachment?

Make use of it each time you vacuum and clean your home by gliding it lightly the direction of the slats or honeycombs. Make sure to clean both sides, the hanging apparatus and any cords. This method works great with several of our shades at Beyond Shades, including: Pirouette® Window Shadings, SILHOUETTE® Window Shadings, DUETTE® Honeycomb Shades, VIGNETTE® Modern Roman Shades, SONNETTE™ Cellular Roller Shades, PROVENANCE® Woven Wood Shades, Designer Roller Shades, and more. Be sure to be gentle and not pull on or damage your window coverings, you can turn your vacuum’s power to a lower setting to decrease the possibility of causing any damage.

As for blinds, dust both sides with a swifter or duster gently, then wipe down each side with a damp multipurpose wipe or cloth with water and vinegar. Make sure to dry your blinds dry after to prevent discoloring. For our PARKLAND® Wood Blinds and EVERWOOD® Alternative Wood Blinds, use a wood conditioner to protect them against sun damage no more than twice a year.

For aluminum and vinyl blinds like our MODERN PRECIOUS METALS® and NATURAL ELEMENTS Aluminum Blinds, try washing them in the tub with warm water and soap. Soak and scrub gently. After Scrubbing them, soak them once more with freshwater before drying them with a towel before rehanging them.

Find a stain on a fabric shade?

First try dampening a cloth and blotting out the stain before trying fabric detergent for set-in stains. Be sure they dry completely before raising them. Blinds and shades near kitchens areas should be cleaned regularly due to grease build ups.
